Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)
We provide three methods of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), the most effective reversible methods birth control.
Four (4) methods of birth control
We provide ParaGard® IUD, Mirena® IUD, Liletta® IUD, Skyla® IUD, the Nexplanon® Implant, and the Depo-Provera® shot. No pills or patches.
No cost to client
We will pay for what is not covered by a woman’s health insurance or other programs. There will be no out of pocket expense to patients for the methods provided by A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee at any of our 3 partner clinics.
Who we serve
We will provide service to any woman in Davidson County. Girls under the age of 13 must have parental/guardian consent.
We will provide free transportation to any woman in Davidson County who needs a ride to an appointment made with A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee to our nearest partner clinic. Transportation is arranged through our call center.
We will provide a free initial women’s health screen including: STD test, pregnancy test, and pap screen if over 21.

How do I make an appointment?
Call 615-671-STEP (615-671-7837) to schedule an appointment. The receptionist will find the clinic nearest you. If needed, they will also remind you about the appointment and set-up free transportation to and from your A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee appointment.
Can I get a free IUD or implant from A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee if I have insurance?
Yes. Our partner clinic will bill your private insurance first, but we will pay any co-pay and deductibles for Davidson County residents. There will be no out of pocket expense to patients for the methods provided by A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee at any of our 3 partner clinics.
Can I get a free IUD or implant from A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee if I do not have insurance?
Yes. A Step Ahead Foundation will cover the full cost of the procedure and pharmaceuticals for Davidson County residents receiving one of the 4 methods provided at our 3 partner clinics.
Will A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee pay for my birth control pill prescription?
No. A Step Ahead Foundation DOES NOT pay for any pills, patches or rings. We provide the ParaGard® IUD, Mirena® IUD, Liletta® IUD, Skyla® IUD, the Nexplanon® Implant, and the Depo-Provera® shot free to Davidson County residents.
Our partner clinics also accept walk-ins, so if you are interested and are already at a clinic you can inquire about an appointment for free birth control, also known as contraception, though A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
How do I get to my appointment?
The call center at 615-671-STEP (615-671-7837) can schedule free cab rides to and from A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee appointment. The receptionist will ask if you need free transportation during the call to set-up your appointment.
I heard the IUD and implant is really expensive, how much does it cost?
If you have a Davidson County zip code, IUDs and implants are free through A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee at one of our 3 partner clinics. A Step Ahead is the payer of last resort, so if you have insurance or qualify for Medicaid, TennCare or other programs they will be billed first, but there will be no out of pocket cost to you, the patient.
